Introduction
Democracy, that broad and abstract concept, is once again on everyone's lips.
Details
In an etymological sense it starts from a simple and concrete idea, the government of the people or the people, even so this concept has been built as it was deployed in various forms of political organization of society through representative, deliberative, direct or participatory democracy. Different declinations with very different conceptions of this radical and concrete idea of democracy.
In this conference, we want to debate the concept of democracy in Europe today, what are its limits in the context of the current multiple crises and what challenges open up in front of such a complex scenario in terms of political governance at multiple scales. The objective is also to dialogue with a critical and reflective view on the crisis of democracy with the defense of fundamental rights and the fight against inequalities. At the same time, we want to deepen the role of Europe in the global scene and what its role should be in a horizon of defense and progress towards a global democracy or a democracy of democracies.
That is why it will have one key speaker in the debate on the challenges of democracy, such as the philosopher Daniel Innerarity.
