A conference is a collection of meetings arranged in a programme, with a number of people invited as speakers, and other information fields typical of large congresses or social events (registration, list of organisations that support or sponsor the event, etc.).

Examples: A conference can be a relevant event for an organization and its members, or take place as part of a participatory process or follow a consultation.

Introduction

Day dedicated to exploring regional perspectives on democracy and bringing together leaders and defenders of democracy from all over the world.

Details

With the aim of promoting global collaboration for the defense of democracy, the European Global Democracy Coalition Forum 2024 will be held on March 12 at Ca l'Alier, Barcelona. This strategic timeline allows the Forum to lay the groundwork for the upcoming Summit for Democracy in South Korea, scheduled for March 18 and 19, 2024.

Planned as a week-long celebration of democracy, the Global Democracy Forum 2024 promises to be a historic event in advancing democracy worldwide, alongside associated organizations of the Global Coalition for Democracy. The objective of this event is to provide a space for dialogue on democracy, bringing together a diverse and cross-sectoral group of democratic organizations from the Coalition, policymakers, and democracy advocates worldwide, offering an in-depth exploration of regional perspectives on democracy and culminating in a global gathering.

The forum sessions will focus on debating and reflecting on two main themes. On the one hand, panels will explore how younger generations perceive democracy, engage with technology, and address the challenges of misinformation. On the other hand, they will delve into regional conceptions, practices, and narratives about democracy, inspiring a renewed commitment to democratic principles and collective responsibility for strengthening governance.

Among the speakers, Carol Romero, from the Decidim platform, stands out.

In Europe, the forum's organization is overseen by Political Watch, a think-and-do tank with a mission to work towards defending the democracy of the future. The event will take place in Barcelona, chosen to be the European Capital of Democracy, and will bring together organizations from across Europe working towards promoting democratic values in a space for debate and engagement.
