  • May 9th, European Day of Local Trade on Europe Day

Commercial Axes associated with Barcelona Comerç have been joining Europe Day since 2019 through the European Day of Local Trade. This day aims to recognize the role of projecting the identity, lifestyle, and prosperity that retail trade brings to the neighborhoods of Barcelona and to European and national municipalities.

Some of the 23 commercial axes associated with Barcelona Comerç promote the day with a stand, in a central space with a leaflet about the event, European values, and the project created by the Entity and the City, as the European Capital of Local Trade.

On this website, there is the possibility of joining the project. On the other hand, merchants associated with Entity's commercial axes will set up a table outside their shops, where they will also share and display informational leaflets about the event, small European flags, and products from their establishments. Citizens and residents will also be able to join the request for Barcelona to become the first European Capital of Local Trade. A citizen, consumer, and local trade movement to create a closer, prosperous Europe, and more human and sustainable municipalities facing the challenges we face, projecting our identity and lifestyle.

  • The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Commercial Axes of the city and in front of associated shops.

  • This is a free event.

  • Organized by: Barcelona Comerç (Barcelona Commerce Foundation)

  • Halting the far right: strategies for a democratic Europe

Discussion on the dangers and proposals to combat the rise of the far right within the framework of the European elections.

The outcome of the European elections will determine new majorities in the Parliament, with a warning about the possible growth of the European far right (which will join a European Council with members of the same orientation) and will also define the election of the new Commission, its strategy, and priorities. The acceleration or delay of the European Green Deal, the enlargement calendar, unity around support for Ukraine, the reform or revision of the Treaties... are at stake depending on the result, but above all, the possibility of definitively endowing the European Union with its own economic and political entity, based on democracy.

We are certain that European construction can only be based on an informed, critical, and committed citizenship and on a political project closely linked to local reality and committed to wealth generation and equity.

  • The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Pompeu Fabra University (Carrer Ramon Trias Fargas, 25-27, Barcelona).

  • This is a free event.

  • Organized by: Catalonia Europe Foundation
